Rey is a seasoned multifamily real estate investor, consultant, bestselling author, and retired military officer. He began investing in residential real estate in 2005 and has focused exclusively on the multifamily sector since 2016.
As the founder and operator of several investment firms, Rey has led the acquisition and asset management of 16 multifamily properties and build-to-rent projects across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and South Dakota. This portfolio comprises over 1,300 units with an aggregate value exceeding $185 million.
In addition to his direct investments, Rey provides independent consulting to multifamily investors and is the bestselling author of BLUF: The Bottom Line Up Front about Passively Investing in Multifamily Properties.
His disciplined and strategic approach is informed by a distinguished 28-year career in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2019. He concluded his service as a Foreign Area Officer, providing political-military advice on Latin American affairs to senior U.S. military and civilian leadership.
Rey holds an MBA from Columbia Southern University and is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. He is married to Mayerlyn Reyes and has two sons, Ismael (Jr.) and Gabriel.

Mayerlyn Marie Reyes has sold, listed, and invested in single-family residences since 2005. As Vice President of MI Real Estate, LLC, she manages legal and marketing aspects of the company. Mayerlyn is a licensed Florida REALTOR that has work experience as a title company escrow agent and Real Estate paralegal which offer a well-rounded perspective to company transactions.
Mayerlyn earned a BS in Legal Studies from Bellevue University in 2009, is fluent in Spanish. She is married to Ismael “Rey” Reyes and has two sons, Ismael (Jr.) and Gabriel.
